Another group of students from the Republican Institute of Higher Education visited Radmetron as part of their advanced training in the radiation safety. We asked Yury Ledniou, Radmetron training specialist, to share some details about the importance of such meetings and how they are useful for those working with ionizing radiation sources. "We are always happy to host students and various delegations in Radmetron, including permanent seminars for students of advanced training courses. In my experience, each of these meetings is special, because we adapt the program to a specific group of participants, basing on their needs and professional experience. For some students, the topic of interest is personnel safety during interventional procedures, for others radionuclides monitoring in water and food, or radiation monitoring for radioactive waste management. One of the most popular requests is training on the implementation of the radiation monitoring system in organizations operating radiation sources, primarily personal dosimetry. Radmetron product portfolio provides a wide range of dosimetry equipment that allows to implement a full-fledged radiation monitoring system when handling sources of ionizing radiation. All dosimeters produced by Radmetron are compact, accurate and reliable devices with the average service life of at least 10 years. At the same time, each model has its own advantages, suitable for different users' needs. For example, one of the world-known models of ambient dosimeters PM1603 is produced as a wristwatch in a sealed, shock-resistant IP67 case and is an indispensable device for continuous round-the-clock monitoring of the radiation situation in adverse and extreme conditions. Wide dose rate measurement range – up to 5 Sv/h for РМ1603А and up to 10 Sv/h for РМ1603В allows to operate the dosimeters by first-responders, border, and customs control officers. Another ambient dosimeter PM1211 – less sealed than PM1603 (IP54 vs IP67) – provides measurements of the dose rate in a wide range of up to 120 mSv/h, and the accumulated dose of up to 25 Sv.
An additional feature of РМ1621М and РМ1621МА models is the additional Search Mode and built-in vibration and light signaling for the detection and localization of radioactive materials, including the covert search with a disabled audible alarm. I would like to note that in addition to a quite boring assessment of technical characteristics, we are always happy to provide our devices for a real live trial: to evaluate how strong and compact is a case, how user-friendly is an interface, how notable are alarm annunciators, how bright is a screen, how easy is that to replace the batteries. All this is extremely important for choosing a dosimeter, which will become a key element in monitoring the safety of personnel working with radiation sources. Today, it is easy for users to get confused when choosing a dosimeter from so many options available on the market and it is often difficult for users to navigate what kind of device they need. In such cases, the Radmetron Sales Team is always happy to guide the users through the wide range of different instruments and help them choose the most suitable solution.
