The Automatic Irradiation Calibration System is designed for verification, calibration, and quality assurance of the radiation instruments that measure exposure dose and exposure dose rate, air kerma and kerma rate, dose equivalent and dose equivalent rate, personal dose equivalent and personal dose equivalent rate and testing these instruments in gamma-radiation collimated beam (emitted by standard sources 241Am, 137Cs, 60Co and other).

Operation Principle
The system operating principle is based on the irradiation scheme realized by a fixed multipositional irradiator and linear positioning system (LPS) with a rotary table.
The application of gamma-radiation sources of different activity and changing the distance between the source and detector within operating distance intervals cause changes in dosimetric quantity values. The control of source selection in the irradiator revolver, ejection of the selected source to the expose position and positioning the device under test in the system radiation beam are performed by the operator via remote control panel (CP) or with the help of specialized metrology software installed on the PC.
Automatic Mode
The specialized Software enables the automatic calibration mode. The manual mode is also available.
In the automatic mode, the operator creates a calibration scenario; specifies the type of sources, sets dose rates reference points and corresponding exposure intervals; installs the instrument in the instruments holder. The instruments holder is attached to the rotary table. Other processes are realized by the system itself. Positive verification results are generated in the reports (for each instrument) which contain the following information according to ISO 17025 requirements:
- calibration laboratory and customer company details;
- information about the calibrated instrument;
- environmental conditions when the calibration was made;
- calibration system accreditation information;
- table with the calibration results.
Modifications
- PM9100 (irradiator MI14)
- PM9101 (irradiator МI12)
PM9101 differs from PM9100 in the usage of radionuclide source of gamma-radiation sources with less activity.
Benefits
- The operation of multipositional irradiators of PM9100 and PM9101 with ionizing radiation sources is controlled remotely.
- The system design ensures safe operation in any emergency situations.
- All irradiator units and details that contact with the sources do not require maintenance throughout the operational lifetime of PM9100.
- The application of cylindrical guide rails, bearing assemblies and toothed belt ensure positioning accuracy, high speed and quiet operation of the linear positioning system (LPS).
- The procedure of measuring the anisotropy of dosimeters sensitivity is automated.
- PM9100 provides the possibility to remotely (from the operator room) connect different stands and instruments, installed on the rotary table.
- The control system made on the basis of industrial automation ensures safe and failure-free operation throughout the lifetime of PM9100.
- The control panel display has simple, visual and intuitively clear menu. To make the operation more convenient, the display indicates different fault messages and pieces of advice for the operator in case of wrong control actions.
- The alarm and interlock systems in combination with the operation control system and radiation control system ensure personnel protection from radiation.
